I decided to experiment with the fig tree since I've read this is an easy species to take roots, so this last January I have taken two cuttings from branches.
I used plain perlite as a substrate, rooting hormone and black plastic bag for protection.
Here are two photos of one of the cuttings. As you can see there are enough whitish fleshy rootlets growing above the soil and I do not know what to do with them. In any case this is a surprisingly fast growth , at least for me... Perhaps the rooting hormone is the cause for this?

Should I leave those roots undisturbed until they die by themselves?
Thank you in advance.

PS: I have also asked about my cuttings [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Feel free to make any moderation you need to.

I aggree with Stauros. Repot it with out to disturb the rootball. Just take it out and put it to a bigger pot and fill the extra space with more substrate.

That's a... briefing Very Happy
Going by Greg's advice I repotted the cutting. It was amazing to see how many rootlets there were formed!!!
New substrate is a mix of lava, pumice in equal parts and a little peat with some kind of kelp humus and of course all the perlite that the root ball carried along with it. I am still using the transparent plastic bag.
The hairy roots growing above ground have started to dry out.

you don't need the plastic bag...be aware of fungal problems (poor air circulation + weather getting warmer)
