A potential hollow olive tree Empty A potential hollow olive tree

Post  Greg Sat Sep 01, 2012 10:27 pm

This olive tree collected on November 2010. Not a good raw material I can say . It was just a straight multi trunk olive tree with a big base. My scope is to tranform it to a hollow trunk olive tree. A hollow one like the many you may find in very old olive fields. I will try to achive this by carving the inner part in a such way that eventually will look like an ancient hollowed olive tree.

any suggestions are more than wellcome.

This is very difficult material.
I would be inclined to cut off all the "fingers" and grow branches directly from the top of the main trunk.
Over time it might look like an old olive tree like Savvas has described.

Thanks Christos and Savvas for your reply.

for sure more carving will follow but for the time being I think got the basic form. Yes its look like a palm but Iam not sure if is right to remove the fingers Smile . Sometimes trees looks different in reality than in photos.
