Olive - styling ideas
I would like to show you a collected olive tree. This olive tree collected last year and as you can see from the last photo is growing fast and vigorously.
The only problem is that I don’t know how to proceed with it!!. Is one of these trees that I don’t have clue what to do!
Do you believe that this is a good raw material?
Any ideas how to proceed with first styling?
Many thanks
The same thread / topic appears as well to the European native bonsai forum ,

Re: Olive - styling ideas
I have a great idea....
Why don't you give it to me as a present and i will find a way to style it

Re: Olive - styling ideas
seriously now....i would like to see a new pic from the front, just to see which parts of the tree are still alive.
I would then probably change the position of the tree in the pot by lifting it up.

The whole tree is alive actually. Lifting it up is one option but not sure if is the best option

Good material.
Alternative styles are; cascade, semi cascade, informal upright, slanting, windswept. In all styles the trunk may be same. Before cut, you can make jin to some of the branches.

There is a nice chat of the same tree as well with an alternative style ( something like the one you suggested) at the european foroum.
Have a look

Re: Olive - styling ideas
Here is an update
It was one of the trees discused during our last workshop with Graham.
we took the following actions
-The excess growth removed
-the fat straight branches near the base removed
-The unecessary dead wood removed and the rest was cleaned and refined
- a slight inclination to the left was necessary as well
- and finally a light wiring to the remaining new growth
see below the before and after photos
The last photo is a virtual showing our vision for this tree

I guess iam getting old, don't have a glue what are you talking about
Re: Olive - styling ideas
The prospects of this tree are great....it has a very nice base with dead wood, holes created by fire at some time....the shape is so unique..and what i like on all Grahams proposals is that he totally respected the work of nature and tried to build on that....Very nice Greg.
