i think your main concern is to force it to bud nearer to the old wood in order to be able to have more options with styling

Greg,the character of the trunk is super,but those straight lines again...i woulld either shorten the branches or cut the off because the way i see it is that they restrict you to make the next move....

I dont like the straight lines as well. I will leave it to see how it will go and then I will cut accordingly
