Pomegranate
I would like to show you a 3.5 years progress of a pomegranate. The tree bought from a local nursery as a garden plant.
At first the tree height was1.5 metres and reduced to 60cm.
After a year I decided that it has no potential with this height and further reduced to 30cm
Iam very happy with the up to date progression. It still need a few more years for a better ramification. Nebari lack is the major fault for the time being.
see the photos below.
The first reduction of height at 60cm.

Re: Pomegranate
Having in mind what the starting material was like, the end result is quite good Greg....its a species we should work on once we get the right raw material...

Re: Pomegranate
you did a great job so far, especially when you think of the raw material you started with.
Re: Pomegranate
Stauros & Savvas ,Many thanks.
Pomegranate is great for bonsai. I hope that we will have the chance to find some more appropriate raw material next time.

Re: Pomegranate
Greg you have achieved a good basic shape. The major flaw of this tree is the straight trunk with slight reverse taper of the lower third. You can either split the lower trunk or, preferably and more safely, air-layer it at the level where there are small bulges on either side. The air-layering will have the effect of swelling the trunk more at that point, especially if you tie a wire around the trunk just below where the new roots will emerge. I think the end of next month would be a good time.
I have not had much success with pomegranates
