First attempt - olive tree
My first attempt to one of my yamadory olive trees.
The following has done
- the removal of the completely unnecessary growth and wood
- Cleaning of the live bark,
-Cleaning, stripping, curving and application of lime sulphate to the dead wood
--A primary downwards bending of the remain new growth.
Now I have a more clear image of the tree to think how to proceed with the first styling.
First styling will take place probably next March.
Any ideas???

Re: First attempt - olive tree
do you have a plan?
I feel that the tree looks a bit messy with all that deadwood
There is also reverse tapering which can be corrected rather easily, me thinks

Re: First attempt - olive tree
Exactly the tree from the photo looks a bit messy. This is due to the 2 dimensional photos or there is a need to remove some more dead wood, one of the two I am not sure yet.
I didn’t remove too much dead wood anyway. This will give me some time to think about the design of the tree.
About the reverse tapering I am not sure how critical can be to a yamadory like this, but in any case can be corrected any time.
I don’t have any plan yet Stauros ! Just trying to digest it.
Any ideas from you? Actually I made a few poor virtuals, I will download them later.
Any assumptions about the age of this olive tree?

Some work you did there Greg.....One thing i want to point out to your tree(i see it on some of my trees as well)its those straight, fresh trunks that look like plastic,we should do something about those. They ruin the picture of the whole tree....

you can use the following Savvas for the young trunks/branches. This will give the age effect.

Re: First attempt - olive tree
Just wrap the trunk with a black rubber-like tape which has a very weak adhesive. Leave the tape in position for 8-10 months. Wiring can be apply on top. It works for olivesstavros wrote:use what??
Re: First attempt - olive tree
It surely does,i remember this from another olive....we should try it you are right...

Re: First attempt - olive tree
i like the virtual in general.
if you will follow this "route" , according to the drawing, you should remove the live branch from the upper part of the tree.

Exactly there is a need to cut the upper part up to a certain point.

One of the many trees discused during our last workshop with Graham
Not too many things done to this one.
The overall height of the live part reduced and then a light pruning took place. Furthermore the dead wood extended up to the base / nebari of the tree.
See below the before and after photos

Re: First attempt - olive tree
an update......
the last photo is a virtual showing the tree in a pot.
I think that a rectangular medium to shallow with round or inclined corners pot will compliment the tree very beautifully.

The Aphrodite of Knidos
The Aphrodite of Knidos was one of the most famous works of the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles of Athens (4th century BC). It and its copies are often referred to as the Venus Pudica ("modest Venus") type, on account of her covering her naked vulva with her right hand. Variants of the Venus Pudica (suggesting an action to cover the breasts) are the Venus de' Medici or the Capitoline Venus. The statue became famous for its beauty, meant to be appreciated from every angle, and for being the first life-size representation of the nude female form. It depicted the goddess Aphrodite as she prepared for the ritual bath that restored her purity (not virginity), discarding her drapery in her left hand, while modestly shielding herself with her right hand. Her hands are placed in a motion that simultaneously shields her womanhood and draws attention to her nudity. Aphrodite's body bends in a contrapposto position, an artistic innovation which realistically portrays normal human stance.
