if you ever come over (hopefully we can get something organised in the future) we'll take you for a walk in nature and dig a few together.

We are very lucky since we have to drive for less than 1 hour from our place and then walk for a few minutes to find suitable trees... Smile Smile Smile

I'd happily come collecting with you. Olives are very difficult to keep in the UK but I'd be more than happy to hunt out a few for you.

sorry for the delayed answer....

i don't really know why it did not show any growth on the 1st year....i have collected old olive trees before and this was the only one which ddid not grow strongly from the very beginning. It could be many things: the root system was not mature enough, the way i collected it was not ideal, the way it was cared was not as it should be...so many things and parameters that i cannot point a finger to something specific........

What i can say though is that all trees collected this season (autumn 2010 - spring 2011) are all in leaf!!! If i am not mistaken, i collected more than 12 in total . ANd i can tell you what treatment i have been giving them if u want.

The only relation I have found is that trees collected from a specific area start new growth during the second growing season!

in my case, it is the ONLY tree that its growth was delayed.....all other trees regardless of area, grew in few weeks-couple of months.
i was talking to Savvas the other day about this and he was telling me that his trees are doing like mine: growing like crazy and only a few weeks after the collection, regardless of the area that were collected.

If you are experiencing delays, i can only think of 1 single factor that you do differently that Savvas and me: the substrate that u use.

You may right substrate is good reason for this delay. I think is not a good idea to change substrate now.
By the way Savvas has the same problem with the collected trees of the said area
