This is a wild olive collected in autumn 2010.
It grew very vigorously, so i decided to choose the main branches and wire them in place, without shortening them.
Ideally, in 5 years time it will be a show-able tree, with a nicely developed leader and good ramification. It received good fertilisation with plenty of N every few days. I an not going to prune it until next spring, unless the growth is substantial (in that case i will start pruning in autumn 2011)

Most of my collected trees this year grew fresh branches in a very short period of time but also very vigorously. I cannot say for sure why, because i have treated them exactly the same as last year with the exception that i started using Rhizotonic by canna, to help them establish a good root system.

This first picture was taken 1 month ago.

The tree is growing so fast and so vigorously!!!! this is why i decided to do the primary styling....
Up till now i used to wait for at least a year with olive trees but if a tree is doing so well, why not starting the primary styling at this point?? It saves at least a year, and also puts the primary branches in the right (more or less) position from the very beginning, thus avoiding stressful bends on stiff branches.

thats why I love to collect in Autumn, its give time to the tree to come back and then you have the whole growing season front of you. Of course this is correct with our mild winter.
let us know about the progress, I usuallly wait at least for one year as you said before.
