juniper San Jose no. 7
A few years ago, ( 7 or 8 ), i planted 15 Ch. Juniper San Jose cuttings of about 2mm diametre (brought from the UK, in a plastic sealed bag where they spent 5 days !!!) and i managed to grow 11 trees. I kept most of them and last autumn, i started working on one. The tree received its basic structure but it still needs lots of refinement, especially the crown and secondary branches.

Last february the tree was repotted in a nice Erin pot. It definitely has a long way to go.
It grows nicely and i hope that in a couple of years it will be show ready (ready to be shown as a bonsai i mean)
I am very happy that i have managed to grow it from a small cutting

One of the tree's problems is the reverse taper seen at the base of the trunk.
After seeing a technique from Pavel Slovak, i decided to give it a go. This technique involves splitting of the trunk and insertion of a wooden wedge in order to make the tree wider and give it chance to form callus and improve the unpleasant narrow base
This is an experiment and as such, i am waiting to see the results

Hello Stavros. Might I suggest you put a bigger wedge in and place a cable tie or wire to stop the tree from splitting too far. I would also go for a much larger pot as well.

Thanks for the advice and the tip Will.
I will do it in a couple of weeks, along with potting it in a larger pot.
