The Story of a small olive tree
I would like to share with you, a three years development / progress of a small olive tree.
The olive tree was purchased on March 2008 from a local flower shop for the price of 6 Euros.
First photo – 2008 -immediately repotted to a relatively small pot without any further reduction of foliage.

Second photo – 2009 - Repotted with an inclination to a larger pot. My First Wiring attempt can be seen.

Third photo – 2010 – A better wiring attempt to give a better balance.

fourth photo- 2011- repotted to a more appropriate pot, a Chinese one (Master Xu)

Re: The Story of a small olive tree
as we discussed previously, it looks like there is reverse taper....the base is narrower than the rest of the trunk.
in real life its not as dramatic though...i've seen the tree a few months ago

Thats right, I have to do something with the reverse taper, probably after summer.

Hello Savvas. With the amount of really good quality wild trees your collecting, It might be worth putting this one in the ground for a few years to fatten it up.

I agree with you Will, your absolutely right. Thanks for being honest with me.
This olive tree is actually part of my first collection. At that time I didn’t have the knowledge to recognize the good material – I am still learning anyway!
These days I replace my first collection with a second one, I don’t know how many times I will do the same replacement in the future!
Nowadays, yes, I believe that we have some good raw material. It’s the learning curve you know, how to recognize potential material.
I decided to keep this one and a few more for now to remind me the early days. It’s easier to experiment to such material anyway and of course you learn how to keep alive a tree in confined space – pot.
Probably I will put it back in the soil after a couple of years, when some of my yamadori will start shouting for a place to the “pantheon”.
For the time being I am just thinking to do something to make it look better – a trunk aging technique and correct somehow the nebari. I am not sure what but I will think something. Do you have any idea on this path?
